NEA REPS Day of Service….the plans are afoot!
On Saturday, I spent my volunteer day at the Connecticut Historical Society (CHS) getting ready for our upcoming day of service. Barbara Austen, Archivist at CHS, and I pulled the materials to be rehoused, reviewed them, and made plans to host the volunteers. There are four boxes of small collections that need to be rehoused in acid-free envelopes and have labels typed for them. A number of extremely interesting items are found in these seemingly non-descript envelopes. Correspondence, business receipts, account books, church membership logs, and more can be found in them. There are also several small account books and ledgers that will be rehoused before returning to the shelves.
After rehousing the materials, they will be returned to the storage area. Here’s a glimpse in one of the archives storage areas at CHS.
If we are able to get through these boxes in the morning, Barbara will pull additional envelopes to keep us busy in the afternoon. If we get through all of that, we also will be helping her shift materials to maximize her available space.
We’ll be working in the CHS conference room, a bright cheery room with plenty of table space. If you live in Connecticut or Western Massachusetts, we hope you’ll join us at CHS for the day of service. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Barbara Austen at barbara_austen [at] chs.org or myself at vlsolek50 [at] gmail.com. We’re looking forward to seeing you on Saturday, September 13th!
