Next in our guide are our Group Two tours, the Converse Archives (that’s right! the shoes!) and the USS Constitution Museum. Register here now!
Samuel Smallidge, Converse archivist, will provide an overview of the history of Converse and the archive in its brand new location. The group will get to see the original All Star from 1917 and a lot of other cool artifacts from the 100+ year history of the company. In addition, Converse has just moved into the new company headquarters April 14th (where the museum display is). The new archive storage space (in the Schrafft Building) is still under construction and is slated to be done on May 15th, right in time for our tour!
The tour of the archives and collections storage will be led by Kate Monea, Archivist, and Sarah Watkins, Director of Collections & Learning. The USS Constitution Museum serves as the memory and educational voice of USS Constitution, by collecting, preserving, and interpreting the stories of “Old Ironsides” and the people associated with her. In addition to interactive galleries and family programs, our Samuel Eliot Morison Memorial Library and Reading Room provides a research space for scholars and history enthusiasts. Currently, we are preparing exhibits and interpretive materials for Constitution’s upcoming three-year restoration. The ship will be moving into Dry Dock 1, right outside the Museum’s front doors, on May 19Visit
