1:00pm Mount Auburn

Mount Auburn was founded in 1831 as the first rural cemetery in America. Today, more than 98,000 individuals are buried and commemorated at the site. On this tour archivist Meg Winslow will take us through the grounds and discuss the cemetery as museum and the work of a cemetery archivist.

2:15pm Cambridge Historical Society

Tour the Hooper-Lee-Nichols House, built in the late 17th century it is the second oldest house in Cambridge and the headquarters of the Cambridge Historical Society. On this tour we will also get a behind the scenes look at the processing room at the Cambridge Historical Society.

DOWNTOWN BOSTON TOUR GROUP

1:00pm Boston Athenaeum (http://www.bostonathenaeum.org/)

The Boston Athenaeum was founded in 1807, making it one of the oldest independent libraries in the nation. The building itself is National Historic Landmark, and TourFest attendees will be led around the collection and physical space by a docent at the organization. The current exhibition is Collecting for the Boston Athenæum: Prints & Photographs with over 1,200 works of art on display!

 

2:30pm Massachusetts Historical Society (http://www.masshist.org/)

Celebrate the Massachusetts Historical Society’s 225th anniversary and join us for part two of this downtown tour. MHS is the nation’s first historical society and maintains, preserves, and provides access to extensive collections including the personal papers of John Adams, John Quincy Adams, and Thomas Jefferson.
